Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still need our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than laying down at night and realizing your furnace won’t turn on. If this happens to you, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Roy Inch & Sons Home Services by Enercare.

Check Air Filters

You should change standard air filters each month. If you do not, they can end up clogged, obstructing air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the heating system won’t turn on. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the heating system is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch wasn’t accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your furnace will still not turn on, give Roy Inch & Sons Home Services by Enercare a call at 226-270-1164 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
