Here's What to Do When Your Furnace Won't Ignite

February 23, 2017

We are making our way through the last few weeks of winter but we still have to have our furnaces, especially during frigid nights. There’s not a lot that is worse than laying down at night and realizing your furnace won’t turn on. If this happens to you, here are a few things you can check yourself before your call Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning.

Check Air Filters

You should replace standard air filters each month. If you do not, they can become clogged, restricting air flow and resulting in a furnace malfunction.

Check Your Thermostat

Start by turning the thermostat up a few degrees to get the furnace to turn on. If the true room temperature is higher than the thermostat, the furnace won’t run. Also, verify the system switch is on “heat” or “auto.”

Check the Power

It may seem obvious, but verify the power switch next to the furnace is “On.” Even gas furnaces use electricity so make sure the breaker has not tripped and that the power switch was not accidently switched to the “Off” position.

If you review all these things and your furnace will still not turn on, give Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call at 226-270-1164 and we’ll come out and take care of you as soon as possible.
