4 Tips for Furnace Repair

April 15, 2016

Spring may have sprung but in London it’s not all warm and comfy outside. Your furnace has been running for months attempting to keep the inside of your home comfortable, so now is the time to show your furnace some TLC. If you hear funny noises or the heating system has shut down, you may be in need of a furnace repair. If you notice an intense gas smell, you almost certainly need furnace repair work and you should call Roy Inch & Sons Home Services by Enercare as soon as possible.

Before you decide that you need a furnace repair technician, review these tips from Roy Inch & Sons Home Services by Enercare.

  • Confirm your thermostat has been changed to “heat.”

It may sound ridiculous, but we are always running and life happens, so it’s very easy to overlook the simple fixes. Neglecting to change over the thermostat can make you assume you need furnace repair when really you can resolve the problem with a literal flip of the switch!

  • Check your furnace switch.

Speaking of switches, make sure your furnace switch is on the up, or “on” position. Again, an easy miss, especially considering this switch isn’t one you tend to look at regularly. Most systems have built-in delays so give it a few minutes for your furnace to get going before panicking about contacting our furnace repair man.

  • Replace your furnace air filter.

You should replace your home’s air filters at least every three months to help your furnace run more efficiently and put off any furnace repair work. A dirty air filter is one of the most common reasons for decreased performance in furnaces, and they can also be a breeding ground for germs and cause you and your children to become sick. Replace your filter to keep both your furnace and your loved ones healthy.

  • Check the circuit breaker.

Make sure your circuit breaker (the one that controls your furnace) is in the “off” position and not the middle. If the breaker has been moved to the middle for some reason, move the breaker to “off” and then push it back to the “on” position.

Furnace repairs can get pricey, so avoid a possible issue altogether with ongoing maintenance from Roy Inch & Sons Home Services by Enercare. However, if you are needing furnace repair, we are available 24/7/365 to service all your heating needs.
