Common London AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed a few of the most common air conditioning problems London faces, but now we’re going to talk to you about some typical air conditioner issues that you can help troubleshoot.

Your air conditioner is on but not blowing cool air.

If your AC is running but not actually cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels checked. Refrigerant is important to make sure the air being released from the AC is really cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is frequently a symptom of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged properly.

A simple way to verify if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the larger of the two is “sweating” or producing condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it is, you are probably good to go and don’t require additional refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you place your hand on it, call Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts and we’ll stop by and confirm your refrigerant levels and find out why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should work on refrigerant for central air conditioning systems, due to the dangers of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are multiple reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One might be that it just burned out and you have to get a replacement. Humidity typically causes more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining right or that the drain is obstructed. If you can verify these things, you may be able to find the trouble; but, if not, give Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts a call and we can determine what has stopped your condenser fan from circulating and review your options to get your air conditioning problem corrected.

Your AC system is not providing adequate air cooling.

First thing’s first: try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes we tend to miss the obvious. If that doesn’t get your system working right, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause serious cooling troubles. Another issue that could be causing your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is an all-too-common issue when homes are constructed. Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts is happy to come out and conduct an analysis to determine if the size of your A/C system is causing your troubles.

AC shuts on and off over and over

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off constantly, it could mean one of several things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and needs to be cleaned. Once the system is cleaned and all clogs moved elsewhere, you may be back to a regular running AC. Note that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the proper temperatures, but then the humidity causes your home to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work vigorously to keep your family cool and comfortable.

No matter your problem, whatever typical or atypical air conditioning issue you run into, Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts is here for you around the clock. We are available anytime so we can get your AC system cooling and get your family comfortable quickly.
