Common London AC Problems and Solutions

June 13, 2016

We’ve discussed a few of the most common air conditioning problems London faces, but today we are here to tell you about some typical air conditioner issues that you can help troubleshoot.

Your air conditioner is on but not blowing cool air.

If your AC is running but not actually cooling, you might need to have your refrigerant levels inspected. Refrigerant is required to make sure the air being released from the system is actually cool and keeps your family comfortable. Low refrigerant is frequently a symptom of a leak or that the system wasn’t charged correctly.

A simple way to verify if you are low on refrigerant is to go to your A/C system and locate the two copper pipes. If the large one is “sweating” or producing condensation, put your hand on the pipe and feel if it’s cold. If it’s cold to the touch, you are probably good to go and don’t require additional refrigerant.

If you’re unsure or the pipe is not covered in condensation and is not cold when you place your hand on it, call Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning and we’ll stop by and confirm your refrigerant levels and discover why your air conditioner is not blowing cool air. Note: only an EPA Certified technician should work on refrigerant for central A/C systems, due to the hazards of handling this potentially dangerous chemical.

You air condenser fan isn’t circulating.

There are multiple reasons your condenser fan may not be circulating. One might be that it just burned out and you have to get a replacement. Humidity tends to cause more condensation so another issue to watch for is that the water is not draining right or that the drain is blocked. If you can look for these things, you may be able to locate the trouble; but, if not, give Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning a call and we can inspect what is preventing your condenser fan from circulating and review your options to get your air conditioning problem corrected.

Your AC system is not providing sufficient air cooling.

First thing’s first: try decreasing the temperature on your thermostat. It seems ridiculous but sometimes we tend to ignore the obvious. If lowering the thermostat doesn’t get your system working right, check and get a new air filter. If the air filter is blocked, it could cause serious cooling troubles. Another issue that could result in your lack of cooling is an air conditioner that is not sized properly, and unfortunately this is a very common issue when homes are built. Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is happy to come out and conduct an analysis to determine if the size of your A/C system is causing your troubles.

Air Conditioner shuts on and off constantly

If your A/C system is short cycling, or turning on or off constantly, it could mean one of multiple things. One option is that your condenser or evaporator is obstructed or dirty and in need of cleaning. Once the equipment is cleaned and all blockages moved elsewhere, you may be back to a normal running AC. Note that humidity also plays a role so if the house cools to the proper temperatures, but then the humidity causes your house to heat up quickly, this would contribute to an on-again, off-again air conditioner because it’s having to work vigorously to keep your family cool and comfortable.

No matter your issue, whatever common or uncommon AC trouble you run into, Roy Inch & Sons Service Experts Heating & Air Conditioning is here for you around the clock. We are available to you so we can get your AC system cooling and get your family comfortable quickly.
